Kos & Kaos Ceramics class

Kos & Kaos hosted a beautiful two-day ceramics workshop at the Jewish Museum in Oslo — an experience that blended creativity, tradition, and community in a uniquely meaningful way. Led by ceramicist Marie Henriksen, participants spent two Saturdays exploring clay, symbolism, and the art of making something both beautiful and deeply rooted in Jewish heritage.

Spread across November 16 and 30, 2024, the workshop centered on creating seder plates — one of the most iconic ritual objects of Pesach. On the first day, participants learned the fundamentals of working with clay, experimenting with form, texture, and patterns inspired by Jewish art, history, and personal memory. The atmosphere was hands-on and joyful, with people helping each other, trying out new techniques, and discovering surprising creative instincts.

The second day was dedicated to decoration and meaning. Using paint and glaze, each participant transformed their plate into a personal interpretation of the themes of Passover: liberation, resilience, and renewal. Rabbi Michael Paley enriched the day with a captivating lecture on the symbolism of the seder plate — its messages of freedom, collective memory, and the responsibility of passing tradition from generation to generation.

The workshop concluded with a warm social gathering, where participants shared reflections, admired each other’s work, and celebrated the power of making something by hand in a supportive, inclusive community.

It was a workshop that brought together creativity and heritage, offering a space where tradition became tactile, personal, and alive — truly Kos & Kaos at its best.
